(W16-1) Media Trends and Globalization QnA - Choi Min Joon

 1. Is globalization increasing? How globalized are Korea, China or other countries?

And in what dimensions? Study the data at tinyurl.com/globalkof and let me know what you think.

A) Globalization is on the rise across the board. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it showed a brief decline, but it recovered quickly.

Korea and China also showed an overall increase. However, the overall level of globalization was higher in Korea than in China.
You can see that by looking at the graph of the globalization index.
The economic, trade, and financial globalization indexes also showed higher performance in South Korea.

In China, if you look at the globalization graph, gradual growth is taking place, but the trend is weak, so it seems necessary to put more effort into globalization.

2. How Korean is Samsung?
Let's Guess. What % of  Samsung   A)revenue
                                                           B)shareholders
                                                           C)employees domestic

A) Samsung's revenue is estimated to be around 37 trillion won this year.

In addition, Samsung Electronics, dubbed Korea's national stock, has about 6 million shareholders, and foreign ownership is about 12%.

Samsung Electronics' domestic (117,927 employees) and overseas (152,445 employees) accounted for 43.6 percent and 56.4 percent, respectively.

Samsung's influence in Korea is huge. As it is the largest company in Korea, it has a great influence on the people. Not only that, but as you can see from the data above, it has a significant impact on foreign countries. Samsung is one of the indispensable companies in Korea's globalization.

3. When do you think globalization started?

A) The beginning of globalization may be when the Silk Road was born, or it may be when the world war began.

However, I think that the beginning of globalization that we now think began when physical distance decreased due to the development of transportation, and the boundaries between countries began to fade due to the development of the Internet.
