[23/09/11] Media Trend and Globalization Q&A
Q1) How could a fusion culture look in 100 years?
A1) In my opinion, fusion culture gonna be
mixed more and more and complexed as we all know. In that terms of, AI’s answer
is pretty adequate, like hybridity of digital, cuisine, language, and so on.
But as the world is gradually changing rationally, religious beliefs are likely
to be excluded. The answer about artificial intelligence is a bit irrational in
that it has made religious claims.
Q2) Think of examples in which we are
taught as children that our culture is better than other cultures. Is it really
true?
A2) When we were young, we often considered
'polite' the greatest virtue, and we have learned that 'Asians are polite
compared to other races. But in fact, being too considerate of the other person
can infringe on personal freedom. Therefore, I don't think the characteristic
of being polite is better than other cultures.
Q3) Can cultures be compared? Can we argue
that some cultures are better than others?
A3) I think there is no exact standard to compare the cultures. However, all of these should respect each other's cultures on the premise that they do not infringe on basic human right to life or freedom. Arab/Indian rights, which are considered particularly low in women's human rights, or some Muslim countries that violate human rights, think that culture is relatively inferior. In comparison, American, European, and Asian countries are better I guess.
However, AI excludes this explanation. Of course, it is a very sensitive issue to deal with the superiority/ inferiority of culture, but they just explain that the difference in culture is 'subjectivity'. It is objectively problematic that it becomes natural to infringe on rights.
