1) Summary

 The work by White and Robertson on "What is Globalization?" provides a detailed analysis of the issue of globalization. Both White and Robertson examined how the concept of globalization is a complex and multifaceted paradox, that encompasses social, cultural, political, and economic dimensions. This work emphasizes how nations are interdependent and interconnectedness among individuals, society, and nations in an increasingly international world. This research discussed the important role of people, information, the global flow of capital, the advancements in technology, the emergence of global networks, and multinational institutions. Robertson and White also examined how globalization impacts different aspects of economics, governance, culture, identity, and life systems. Ideally, this work provided a key understanding of how globalization is a powerful force in shaping traditional societies.


2) Interesting point


 The interesting debate or issue highlighted by White and Robertson in this work is the issue of "glocalization". The main argument proposed in this research is that globalization will never lead to an international culture that is uniform but it will result in increased complexities between the local and global forces. Glocalization is a term that is used to refer to the localization and adaptation of global practices, products, and ideas that perfectly fit the local or traditional contexts. Ideally, glocalization showcases the interactive and dynamic nature of the concept of globalization where the local identities and cultures are not transformed, erased, or wiped out but influence by the international forces. Therefore, glocalization is an interesting concept in challenging the belief of globalization as a force emphasizing cultural hybridity and local agency despite the influence of the international community.


3) The point of discussion


 Finally, one discussion angle and question raised from the findings in this research is on the power inequalities and imbalances within the international community. White and Robertson revealed a comprehensive analysis of globalization but it is there is a need for more research on how globalization further perpetuates increased inequalities between social groups, regions, and nations. This research will highlight the roles of terminal international actors like powerful stations like the US and MNEs multinational enterprises in benefiting and shaping globalization alongside the effects of the marginalized global communities. Finally, new research will help in evaluating the strategies for mitigating the imbalances in power within the global contexts and how to increase equity and address the social injustices because of globalization
