Blog Reading Assignment 2-What is the relation between culture and globalization?-YUE JUNTONG

Globalization is one of the most prominent phenomena in today's world. It brought closer economic ties, more convenient transportation and broader cultural exchange. However, globalization also creates new cultural conflicts, which is a worrying problem for those who protect and preserve local cultures.

First, globalization has homogenized cultures around the world. Thanks to advances in technology and the integration of global markets, we can now travel through time and easily access cultural products and ideas from around the world. While this enriches cultural diversity, it also creates the potential for cultural conflict. As a result of globalization, local cultures gradually lose their distinctive characteristics, and cultural friction occurs as a result of the imposition of foreign cultures.

Second, globalization has created conflicts in cultural values. Different countries and regions have different cultural backgrounds and values, causing cultural conflicts around the world. For example, Western countries emphasize individualism and utilitarianism, while some non-Western countries pay more attention to collectivism and traditional values. This conflict of values often leads to friction and competition between different cultures and can even lead to cultural clashes.

Finally, globalization also raises questions of cultural identity. As globalization progresses, people are increasingly exposed to the differences between different cultures, and the cultural identities of individuals and societies are blurring. This cultural identity confusion can make people feel lost and anxious, leading to cultural conflicts. As we face the waves of globalization, we need to think about how to protect and maintain local culture while communicating and interacting with outside cultures.

However, despite the problems of cultural conflict, globalization has also increased opportunities for cultural exchange. Through the Internet and convenient transportation, people can more easily understand and appreciate the cultures of other countries and regions. This type of cultural exchange can broaden an individual's horizons and promote understanding and harmony between different cultures.

Therefore, we must find a balance in the intertwining of globalization and cultural conflicts. On the other hand, we must pay attention to the protection and heritage of local cultures and maintain cultural diversity through education, laws and policies. On the other hand, we must actively embrace globalization, promote cross-cultural exchange and integration, and promote the harmonious development of cultures through dialogue and cooperation.

Cultural conflicts are inevitable in the new era of globalization.

Although inevitable, friction can be reduced by understanding and treating different cultures with an open mind and through active cultural exchange and dialogue. After all, only through mutual respect and tolerance can globalization become not a cause of conflicts but a promoter of the development of human civilization.
