Q1. Talk about cultures except Asian culture and Western culture.

A1.  I want to talk about the reggae music culture, which is a Jamaican music. Except for the cultures of the East and the West, reggae came to mind first. Reggae is music that originated in Jamaica and is now popular all over the world. Soft beats and rhythms are the charm of this music. Also, reggae music in general contains messages about social issues and justice. It deals with issues of race and various inequalities and is also used as part of social movements. This reggae music has gained worldwide recognition thanks to its unique sound and social message, which has greatly influenced Jamaican culture and further African culture and the musical scene.


Q2-1. How global is global culture?

A2-1. Global culture is rapidly spreading around the world through various media and the Internet. That's why they can be widespread in countries where they're prevalent. But I don't think world culture will have much impact on underdeveloped countries where they are not distributed. So global culture is both global and not.


Q2-2. Is global culture unduly dominated by the Western or American culture?

A2-2. I think Western culture and American culture have a great influence on world culture. The development of media, the world connected by the Internet, is now following a trend. I think it's Western and American culture that's at the center of that trend. In particular, American culture is leading the culture in various areas such as entertainment, music, and movies.


Q2-3. Is Asian influence on the global culture growing or receding?

A2-3. However, if you look at the recent trend, you can also see that Asian culture is actively spreading outside and leading the global trend. For example, the Korean drama "Squid Game" gained global popularity, and Bong Joon-ho's film "Parasite" showed the dignity of achieving four gold medals at the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or and the Academy Awards. In the music part, BTS led the global trend, topping the Billboard charts several times. Through this, I think we can see that the influence of Asian culture is definitely growing exponentially.
