Blog Reading Assignment 3 : “What is the relation between politics and globalization?” - Choi Min Joon
Politics and Globalization
The concept of globalization described in the text refers to a multi-dimensional, accelerated, cross-border space, time, and organization. This globalization cannot be matched with politics. Political globalization was seen by some as an opportunity for liberation, leading some to predict the loss of sovereignty and the fragmentation of the social world. One of the most prevalent forms of political globalization in the world is the global spread of democracy based on parliamentary-based nationalism. Democratic governments can be found in most parts of the world, and there is considerable demand, with people from countries that established socialist governments conducting democratic movements. This part can be seen as limited political globalization.Rights in political globalization
Political globalization has been the trend until now that the norms have been set according to the logic of powerful countries such as the United States. It was American democracy that was fundamental to establishing a new order for the norms of globalization. The globalization of democratic politics was seen as pursuing the global domination of the United States. However, over time, as new dimensions of norms such as the power of other countries, human rights, and culture are emphasized, there is an opinion that a different new order should be created. In addition, there is a dominant opinion that the existing order will be challenged by various powers, not the United States.
My thoughts on Reading 3
I don't think politics and globalization can be a good time. Globalization is important for communication between different countries, and communication is ideal for requiring horizontal relationships, but the reality is not. Order must be maintained for communication. But all countries move for their own good rather than world peace. Therefore, I think the order is determined by the logic of countries with strong political influence, such as the United States. However, I think this existing order may change because it currently respects the cultural diversity of each country and the awareness and importance of human rights and world peace are increasing. Efforts should be made to ensure that positive changes that can solve things such as world peace and environmental issues, not the logic of great powers, can be derived.
