Reading Assignment 3: “What is the relation between politics and globalization?”-YUE JUNTONNG

1. The default position of any country is to pursue its interests. There may only be a temporary alliance or antagonism between those who care about the great cause of humanity and any country. Still, they will always be on a different side permanently. From my perspective, cultural globalization drives economic globalization, and economic globalization drives political globalization. However, more than human civilization is needed to achieve the ideal political globalization.

2. I see the essence of the United Nations. Although the United Nations is a representative organization of political globalization, it is still a game between big countries. The three big countries of China, the United States, and Russia are fighting against each other, which is not what people imagine—the perfect global political body.

3. The five permanent members of the United Nations give the United Nations power, rather than the United Nations giving the endless members power. The weak countries in the United Nations do not have any say and can only be forced to one side. Each of the five permanent members has one veto power and can unconditionally veto any country's proposal. Such a system makes small and weak countries lose their right to speak—for example, the hot event during this period-the, the Palestinian-Israeli war. At the beginning of the war, a proposal for a ceasefire between Palestine and Israel was submitted to the United Nations Security Council. The United States voted against vetoing the proposal. In the second vote on the draft resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli issue on October 18, the United States once again used its veto power to deny the proposal, causing the death toll in the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli war to exceed 10,000. This is unreasonable. I believe small and weak countries should form alliances and allocate veto power according to national strength. For example, the African Union, a group of African countries, has veto power. A veto can be used on the UN Security Council if the vote within the alliance is more extraordinary than two-thirds. In this way, the five permanent members will no longer control the United Nations, and weak countries can also have the right to protect themselves.
