Blog Assignment 3: What is the relation between politics and globalization?——BAILINHAN

What is the relationship between politics and globalization?

Political globalization refers to the globalization trend of international political relations. It is an aspect of globalization and is interrelated with economic globalization, cultural globalization, etc. Political globalization can be understood as the tension between three processes that interact to create the complex realm of global politics: global geopolitics, global normative culture, and polycentric networks.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of global citizenship is that society is not one space but many; it is polycentric and not based on any single organizing principle. These three levels of globalization do not exist independently of each other because they are all products of globalization. Globalization is interconnected. In political globalization, states are no longer the only political actors, and various non-state actors such as international organizations, non-governmental organizations and multinational corporations are also playing an increasingly important role. These non-state actors influence the direction of global politics and decision-making by participating in global governance and international affairs.

While the “civic socialization” of politics develops, on the one hand, through the spread of governance practices that both coordinate policies outside the nation-state and engage a range of social actors not traditionally involved in the machinery of government, on the other hand, With the scale of government changing from local to local, social movements and grassroots politics are increasingly coordinated across national borders. The “civic socialization” of politics both reinforces the idea that politics is increasingly shaped by people. In other words, the "civil socialization" of politics means the commonality of political forms that connect the local and the global. "Citizen socialization" also results from the erosion of society.

Interesting point: Human rights organizations claim that “there are two superpowers left on earth: the United States and global civil society.” This reflects the fact that, for many, the importance of civil society to political globalization lies in its potential to organize resistance to capitalism and/or US global hegemony.

From a national level, the United States, as the world's largest economy and military power, does play an important role in international affairs. Global citizens have an important impact on global affairs by working together, speaking out in protest, and promoting social change.

Global civil society has influenced international agendas and policy-making by promoting attention and action on issues such as human rights, environmental protection, and social justice. This promotes global change and social progress.

Question: Will political globalization keep countries in check or will it amplify the voice of powerful countries?

Will political globalization promote development or inhibit development in developing countries?
