(W5) Media Trends and Globalization Classroom QnA - Choi Min Joon

Q1.  What is interesting and surprising about the Inglehart-Welzel cultural map of the world? A1.  The Welzel Cultural Map of the World is used as a tool to compare cultures and values around the world. What I think is interesting about this map is that it connects the comparison of each culture to the way people think and the content of values. In addition, it was interesting to give four values to each X-axis and Y-axis, combining those four dimensions to represent the characteristics of each culture. It seems to be a groundbreaking and ingenious idea that it expresses very abstract content on a scale and makes it into a map. It is an interesting idea to classify countries in this way. Q2.  Why my answer is better than AI? A2.  AI brings out content by combining only existing information, but I think my answer is better because I thought beyond combining those things and brought up my own thoughts.

This is related to the origins of modern soccer in England, famous leagues such as the Premier League, the importance of soccer in everyday life, and the steady international performance of the national team. France also boasts soccer history and excellent national team, but its soccer culture is having a big impact all over the world. Q2. What are the most popular, culture-related topics for country KOREA? A2.  Q1. How could we measure culture globalization? A1. There are many ways to measure cultural globalization. The types of content consumed mainly in each country can be measured and represented as a measure, or the activities of multinational companies and brand awareness of each country can be measured and represented as a measure. It is also possible to measure the degree of each globalization through measurement tools created by authoritative professors and researchers. I think my answer is newer and more interesting than the answer of Chatgpt. Q2.  China, japan, South Korea which one has the most impact on global culture? A2.  I think China has a large national territory and a strong influence in the international community. But in terms of culture, I think Korea and Japan are also influential. Korea has recently been recognized by the world in various fields such as dramas and movies (Squid Game, Parasite, The Glory, etc.), and is also receiving great performances and attention on

Q1. How could a fusion culture look in 100 years? A1.  Globalization is accelerating further with advances in technology. The boundaries between countries will be blurred, and the development of technology will reduce language barriers between countries, leading to more cultural exchanges. In 100 years, I think the convergence culture will become a new type of culture, not a global culture led by major countries around the world. Simultaneous new cultures will emerge in many forms, and those cultures will mix with each other and create new cultures. The difference between this convergence culture and global culture is that there is no major country leading the culture, but the earth evolves into a true global culture in which culture is born and exchanged immediately like a country. Q2.  Can cultures be compared? Can we argue that some cultures are better than others? A2.  I think it is possible to compare between cultures. There are certainly commonalities and differences between dif

Q1. Talk about cultures except Asian culture and Western culture. A1.   I want to talk about the reggae music culture, which is a Jamaican music. Except for the cultures of the East and the West, reggae came to mind first. Reggae is music that originated in Jamaica and is now popular all over the world. Soft beats and rhythms are the charm of this music. Also, reggae music in general contains messages about social issues and justice. It deals with issues of race and various inequalities and is also used as part of social movements. This reggae music has gained worldwide recognition thanks to its unique sound and social message, which has greatly influenced Jamaican culture and further African culture and the musical scene. Q2-1.  How global is global culture? A2-1.  Global culture is rapidly spreading around the world through various media and the Internet. That's why they can be widespread in countries where they're prevalent. But I don't think world culture will have much

[2nd Assignment] What is the relation between culture and globalization? –XIA YIRONG

1)       Summary This article delves into the intricate tapestry that is the connection between globalization and culture, emphasizing their inextricable linkage. The author posits that globalization constitutes a labyrinthine, multifaceted phenomenon, where culture is but one thread in the intricate weave. More significantly, culture is not a passive player but an active force that both feels the impact of globalization and, in turn, forges and shapes it. The author argues that globalization is a shape-shifting, intricate phenomenon that cannot be reduced to a mere conveyor of a single, universal global culture. The article also touches on the promising potential of deterritorialization, a concept that encourages cultural openness, human interconnectedness, and a heightened sense of global ethical responsibility. While it may disrupt our local experiences, it expands our cultural horizons. From this perspective, the author suggests that deterritorialization offers an optimistic perspe

[10/27] Media Trend and Globalization Class time questions

Q. Is Korea/China/Your country more oriented towards short-term or long term? On a scale of 1 (short term orientation) to 100 (long term orientation), what would be your guess? A. I think Korea is a competitive society and has a high long-term orientation compared to other countries because there is a culture that values future success. There are many people who plan long-term plans for months or years, and they tend to be patient for later satisfaction than right now. For example, students persevere for good universities, companies, and continue to strive for their own development. That's why I think the score will be around 90.
Reading 2 : What is the relation between culture and globalization ? Summarize  Tomlinson dives into the many dimensions of cultural globalization, like its economic, political, and social aspects. He sees it as a continuation of a long history of cultural exchange, but recognizes that today's level of interconnectedness is unprecedented. One important aspect he points out is how Western culture has taken a prominent role in the global stage. Western companies have been remarkably successful in spreading their products worldwide. They made sure to create a way of consuming, to decide a sort of global consumer culture thanks to their domination in globalisation :   ”something that people experience or imbibe but do not themselves produce or shape” . It's often criticized for making everything feel the same, but Tomlinson argues that this view might be a bit too simplistic. He brings up how local cultures adapt and put their own spin on these global influences, to leave a littl

Reading Assignment 2: “What is the relation between culture and globalization?”——ZHONG XIN

  1) Summary This article provides a general account of the intertwined and inseparable relationship between globalization and culture. The author suggests that globalization is a complex, multidimensional process that encompasses a number of areas, including culture, and that culture is not only affected by globalization, but also shapes and generates it. The author argues that globalization is an ever-changing and complex process that should not be simply equated with the emergence of a single global culture. The article also refers to the positive potential of the phenomenon of de-territorialization, namely that it can promote cultural openness, human interoperability and a sense of global ethical responsibility. Although it disrupts the experience of locality, it contributes to a broader cultural vision. So in the authors' view, de-territorialization may offer an optimistic outlook for dealing with the wide range of cultural and political challenges posed by global connectivity

[2nd Assignment] What is the relation between culture and globalization? - Kim Minji

  1) Summary This article contains the impact of the globalization of culture on the world, and begins with a story about the connection of globalization. It is important to understand globalization as a process of increasing global connectivity, but to do so, the global dominance of the capitalist system must also be known. In addition, the general speculation in the process of globalization is that a single global culture will continue through globalization, which is defined as an uneven process because it is difficult for the effects of globalization to spread all over the planet. Meanwhile, among some Western critics, there has been a tendency to think that Western culture is a global culture that encompasses everything, which has led to anti-Western sentiment. This unfair trend of universalization was not limited to the Chinese worldview or pre-modern culture. For example, although Marx was a staunch internationalist, his view of culture was based on European tradition. Talk of de

What is the relation between culture and globalization?  1) Summary Globalization is a broad and general trend that does not appear in one area. Rather than seeing something as a priority, it is necessary to recognize that it is a complex process. So what is culture. Culture is not just born and died as time passes, but it can be seen as an activity that individual humans do to find the meaning of life during the process. As time passes, culture is being connected at the village level, the country level, and the world level. The connection of cultures at the world level is that there is a foothold for each person to experience various cultures. In other words, anyone can share the cultures of Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas and give meaning to their own lives. But the reality is different. The culture of each region and country is usually not evaluated equally and equally. Cultural imperialism, cultural toadyism, and Ethnocentrism can be viewed as examples of theories.

2nd assignment: Cultural globalization GENG JIAYI

Currently, due to the relationship between culture and globalization, the global nature of human exchanges is deeper and more extensive than ever before, and countries are more interconnected and interdependent than ever before.   At the same time, hegemonism and power politics still exist, protectionism and unilateralism continue to rise, wars, terrorist attacks, famines and epidemics occur one after another, and traditional security and non-traditional security issues are complex and intertwined. Governance, trust, peace and development are the contradictions in building a community with a shared future for mankind.   In the context of globalization, the impact of adverse factors in individual regions will not be limited to one area, but will spread to multiple countries and even the world. Countries should "work together to keep each other warm" instead of going their own way.   Building a community with a shared future for mankind is a dynamic development process, whic

2nd assignment: Cultural globalization---ZHANG LINYUE

Summarize     Exploring the relationship between globalization and culture requires a separate understanding of the two terms. First, globalization is a complex, accelerating, globally connected, multidimensional process of integration occurring simultaneously in the fields of economics, politics, technological development, environmental change and culture. Cultural processes are mainly oriented towards the construction of shared social meanings. Culture is the meaning that emerges from life and the willingness of people to sacrifice these other needs to fulfill their beliefs about the purpose of existence and good ends. In summary, culture is a dimension that globalization both influences and simultaneously produces and shapes.    Culture enhances global connectivity through consumption activities. But the discussion of the relationship between culture and globalization cannot be limited to the question of the global distribution of cultural goods. What we want to observe is the signi
